Designer dining chairs: comfort and elegance at the table
We spend long hours sitting on a chair, so comfort matters as much as looks. It also needs to suit the table, in height as well as style.
The right dimensions
For a standard table of 72 to 76 cm, choose a seat height of 45 to 48 cm, leaving 25 to 30 cm of legroom. Allow 60 cm of width per guest, and check that any armrests slide under the tabletop.
Materials and comfort
The upholstered bouclé or fabric seats from Dan-Form offer enveloping comfort. Solid wood and cane, favoured by House Nordic and RED Edition, recall the legacy of the great Scandinavian designers. Trademark Living and House Doctor offer rawer lines in wood and metal.
Match or mix?
Identical chairs create a calm, cohesive look; two different designs at the head of the table, or the same chair in two colours, add character without clutter.
