Design dining tables: choosing yours
The dining table is where we eat, but also where we work, play and linger over long conversations. It should be comfortable, sturdy and suited to your chairs.
What size?
Allow 60 cm of width per guest and leave at least 80 cm of clearance around the table so chairs can be pushed back. A 120 cm round table seats 4 to 6; a 200 cm rectangular table, 6 to 8.
Round or rectangular?
A round table encourages conversation and eases movement in a small room. A rectangular table follows the lines of a long room and seats more guests.
Materials
Solid wood, as crafted by House Doctor, Trademark Living and Muubs, develops a patina over time and is easy to restore. Check the type of finish (oiled, lacquered, raw) on each product page to adapt your care.
Your questions
What height should a dining table be?
Between 72 and 76 cm, with chairs whose seat height is 45 to 48 cm.
How do I protect a solid wood table?
Use trivets and placemats, wipe up spills quickly and nourish the wood with a suitable oil once or twice a year.
Pair it with our dining chairs, benches and pendant lights.
